See the Galapagos Islands from a different perspective. Less expensive than nearly all yacht tours, these alternative land-based tours (also called Island Hopping Tours) offer a variety of sights and activities for those looking for an adventure oriented visit to the Galapagos. Nights are spent in hotels or hostels on the Galapagos Islands rather than on a yacht (perfect for those who suffer from seasickness); transportation between islands is by smaller speedboat (not so perfect for those who suffer from seasickness) and/or internal flight. While land based tours do not visit the most remote islands of the Galapagos, there is more time to relax and enjoy the places visited. And, these island hopping tours all visit the big island of Isabela with its fascinating geology and diversity of terrain.

Hotels are located on the islands of San Cristobal, Santa Cruz and Isabela, and passengers can elect the class of hotel they prefer. Standard hotels are comfortable but basic hostels or tourist class hotels, all with private bath and hot water and some with air conditioning. For an extra cost, hotels can be upgraded for those wanting a bit more comfort or luxury. During the Highlights tour, all day trips are made in a speedboat (the longest journey is about 2.5 hours); other tours include a flight from San Cristobal to Isabela, the longest journey. Activities vary according to the tour, and can include snorkeling, hiking, biking and kayaking along with plenty of wildlife observation. For scuba divers, diving tours are offered as well.
